HE WILL LEAD ME
Psa 139:10 Even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand
shall hold me.
It was in the month of August, almost 7 decades ago, that our country
achieved its independence. On 15th
August 1947, India was declared a free nation.
The land ruled by the Britishers was liberated after after a long drawn free
struggle. The current generation may not
realize the amount of blood, sweat and
tears shed by our patriots to achieve this. But still as a nation we commemorate
this day to communicate the value of nation so painstakingly built by our
fathers.
Cut to 2020. Every phone call of
yours, resounds a caller tune which some of us could even recite it by
heart. It starts thus, "The whole country is fighting against
Corona…..". Our grandfathers, fought for independence, in
many different ways. One movement was
called "Quit India Movement". A day came, when finally the britheshers did
leave India. But that was against a
'visible' enemy or a kingdom. Today we
are fighting a tough battle against an enemy, which is not only unseen but
intricate to grapple. When will we achieve 15th August from Corona?
Certainty of Uncertainty!
Despite series of lock-downs, the numbers are increasing by leaps and
bounds across the length and breadth of the nation. Has the country lost its battle? While the economy has reached a 100 year
low, the country, on the other hand, is
marching swiftly to top the table of Covid 19 population across the globe. Is
there a light at the end of the tunnel?
Many have lost jobs and still many are on the verge of losing it. The proverbial 'damocle's sword' is dangling precariously upon many. What is next?
Doom or Daystar!
Aw-sah
1Sa 22:3 And David went thence to Mizpeh of
Moab: and he said unto the king of Moab, Let my father and my mother, I pray
thee, come forth, and be with you, till
I know what God will do for me
David, though coronated as country's crown prince, went through difficult
times, tough terrains before occupying the top position. His life was ever under the shadow of death,
with men chasing after his life. Fearing
threat of murder, he once left his parents under the custody of a foreign king
and took refuge in a cave. David, even in that dark situation, did not
renounce God. He believed that his God
will lead him, will guide him. Should
I face a mighty mountain or a valley dark and deep the Shepherd of my soul will
be be my guide must have been his song, I guess. His question was not annotated with a
'whether' but punctuated with the phrase
"What God will do for me?". "Aw-sah", the hebrew word
for "do" denotes a powerful
and profound meaning. It is not simply
doing. It implies, amongst many other
things making, accomplishing, dealing,
fashioning, fulfilling, trimming etc., In other words, David was not simply saying
"What God will do for me?", he was actually saying "What God will make (or) accomplish
(or) fulfill me?".
Are you journeying through a valley, which is dark and deep? Are you
confronted with questions as to how life is going to be in the near
future? Then just take a leaf out from
David's life. His words resonate faith. God will not mar by life, but will make me
what He wants me to be. David never remained in the cave for long. He came out
to become the greatest King of Israel! And Jesus Christ was later to be called the
'Son of David'. God was making, dealing,
fashioning, trimming David in that wilderness, in that cave.
Even there..
David, the author of Psalm 139 is swerving between two realities of
life. Although enthralled over the way
God has created him, he seems to be running away (or desiring to run away) from
the presence of God. He admits that it is
impossible to find a 'jurisdiction' which is outside the purview of God. Maybe the pressures and problems were taxing
him so much that he sought an isolation, a dark alley, a cave. But God seems to chase him down. Not to kill him, but protect him, make him, evolve
him. In Joseph's prison, in David's
cave, in Jesus's wilderness, the hand of the Lord was present, to protect, to
provide and to promote.
The Bible says that the hand of Lord is not shortened that it cannot
save you. Man's impossibility is God's
possibility. The closed tomb of Lazarus
signified the end of human hope. For
Jesus it was just an occasion of waking up someone from sleep. The invalid man sitting at the pool for 38
long years signified the end of human effort.
For Jesus it was just an occasion of making someone to get up and
walk. You have received this Jesus in
your heart? Have'nt you? What he has done for others, he will do for you!
God of valleys, God of mountains
In Psalm 46:1, the Psalmist
affirms that God is a very present help in trouble. Truly, God is not only a
present help but he presents himself in all situations. He can come to your
rescue where no man, no power, no provision, no medicine could. Maybe you have gone into the deepest well of
depression, horrible sin or even revolted against God for things happening, for
things not happening. Lord Jesus who
spotted Peter at the sea of Galilee to make him a follower, followed after him at the sea of Tiberias (John 21) when
he had 'almost' backslidden. Even
there, the hand of God lead Peter. Maybe
like Peter, you and I are actually called to follow him. But let me tell
you another side of the story. When
there are times you don't seem like following him, he comes following
after you. Jesus, did not relieve
Peter when he (nearly) relinquished his all.
Rather he came back to meet Peter, not to condemn or criticize, but to
create and mould him! Jesus indeed made him a fisher of man!
Leads to make you!
In all his life David asked many
questions. Even in our own life we have
asked many questions. God never answers our questions all the
time. Instead He acts, He leads and He guides.
He wants us to trust him than question him. Even the wisest Solomon and
the perfect Job had more questions than answers in their life. Did they receive answers? No. But they received the truth. They believed in that truth.
Using three prophetic verses, all
taken from the book of Isaiah, we are going to understand as to How God leads
us in difficult terrains, dire situations?
Yes. For many of us the question is not "whether" but the
question is "How"? When Angel
Gabriel met Mary, she did not say "Common, you must be joking. This is utterly impossibile. I have not known a man". Rather she quipped "How shall it be". And these
scriptures teach to us as to How our wonderful shepherd will guide us in these stages of our life….
Whether it is a global pandemic
or an economic disaster, God will guide you. Amen!
(a) Leads the young: A budding family
He shall feed his flock like
a shepherd: he shall gather the lambs with his arm, and carry them in his bosom, and shall gently lead those that are with young (Isa 40:11)
The very first promise that I would like to share with you, for this
month, and for the days to come that 'He
will lead you like a shepherd who shepherds his flock kindly and wisely. This verse portrays a perfect picture of a
shepherd who knows how to handle his sheep.
He is not some one who 'always' uses his rod and staff to discipline and
direct. He feeds, he gathers, he carries
them in his bosom, and gently leads those that are with young. The hebrew meaning of 'with young' actually means a sheep which has just given birth to a
baby, one which is giving milk, a mother sheep which is bringing her baby
along. Prophetically, it speaks of a
young family, it speaks of a father (or a mother) who has a family to feed, it
speaks of the breadwinner who needs to take care of his dependents. Maybe the uncertainty in job, business,
career has demoralized all hopes of building your family up. Don’t' worry.
Jesus, the Good Shepherd will carry you through this phase and provide for your
family. He will lead the young gently!
(b)Leads the blind: A bleak future
And I will bring the blind by a way that they
knew not; I will lead them in paths that they have not known: I will make
darkness light before them, and crooked things straight. These things will I do
unto them, and not forsake them (Isa 42:16)
Closed doors. Closed opportunities.
Closed prospects. All the plans
which we had made until the beginning of the year, about our job, about our business
has gone haywire. Those with a good job
and an handsome salary were planning to buy an house, a car in instalments. Some even entered into an arrangement before
all this could happen. But now, all of a
sudden, a mid-sea storm has struck your life-boat. How will I row the boat? How will I cross
the shore? What will happen to me? Now
there is no way to retract from the journey. Everything looks bleak. Everything looks dark. But the Word of God says that when you do
not know which way to take, our good God, our loving Shepherd would us~the blind~in ways we have not
known. Maybe the recent losses (physical
and financial) have put a sudden brake in all your growth prospects. God will make a way where there seems to be
no way. He will lead the blind in the ways they have not known!
(c) Leads the sick: A body
failing
I have seen his ways, and
will heal him: I will lead him also, and restore comfort unto him and to his
mourners (Isa 57:18)
One can be sick in mind as well as in body. Many a time, it is easy to diagnose and treat
a physical sickness. But treating a
mental sickness, is not that easy. And the
disturbing factor is that a person who is sick mentally, will soon become
physically sick as well. The reverse is
also true. On the contrary, the one who
is mentally (and spiritually) strong is in a far advantageous position to
overcome physical weakness than the one who is not. Even during this pandemic days, the deadly
virus of fear is infecting-affecting the people more severely than the
diminutive Covid19. Nevertheless,
sickness and illness does enter some families, does disturb some righteous people. They do suffer and struggle with
sickness. Not all sickness can be
categorized as punishment or judgement of God. Not all sickness is because of
our physical deficiency. In the case of
Job, Satan was permitted by God to trouble him with sickness. That was to test him and make him pure as
gold. In many cases, sickness can be due
to our sins. Sin can lead to curse and
sickness. The Bible says, "Jesus look all our sins and sickness
upon him and by his stripes we are healed". At times God will allow sickness and illness
to trouble us. Not to destroy, but to
perfect us. If we, whole-heartedly,
return to God with tears of repentance He
will surely heal and restore comfort to us and those around us.
Lead thee continually
And the LORD shall guide thee
continually, and satisfy thy soul in drought, and make fat thy bones: and thou
shalt be like a watered garden, and like a spring of water, whose waters fail
not (Isaiah 58:11)
For the Lamb which is in the
midst of the throne shall feed them, and shall lead them unto living fountains
of waters: and God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes (Revelation 7:17)
Maybe you are struggling to meet the needs, battling with sickness and really not knowing
how tomorrow is going to be. The Word of
Lord for you is short yet sublime~ "I
WILL LEAD YOU". Amen. In
shortage, in sickness, in shadow He will
lead you gently, he will lead you in the paths you have not known, he will heal
and comfort you.
Lord Jesus will lead you continually, even unto the living foutain of
waters! Hallelujah! This is the Promise
of God.
God bless you!
