TRUTH#4 PROVIDENCE(Succumbed and the Surviving)
Jesus
refused. “First things first. Your business is life, not death. And life is
urgent: Announce God’s kingdom (Luke 9:60, The Message)
The Book of Kings records an interesting incident
involving four lepers As outcasts, they survived
at the city gates begging. The nation of
Israel was facing two great challenges.
Great famine inside, formidable enemy
outside. With nothing to eat, they
decide to barge into the enemy camp to grab something. Death, in any case, was imminent. Starvation or Syrians was the question now! If life is spared, they will atleast live
with some food. But the story takes with
an unexpected twist. They find not a
single solider in that camp. They had vanished,
leaving behind loads of food and fortune. An act of God.
With plenty of wealth to settle, these lepers, could
have quitely disappeared from there. But they resolved to share this good news
wih the King.
This story is well known to us. It is often used to reiterate our
responsibility of taking the Gospel to the unreached.
I would like to view this from the
perspective of a survivor.
(1) These lepers were living in an
uncertain, unfavourable, unfriendly environment - So are we!
(2) The famine in that nation has killed
many. With nothing to eat, death was
knocking at their doors too - So with
us!
(3) To survive, they decide to do
something that defies logic. Getting
into an enemy camp is akin to putting your hand in lion's mouth. No way they will be spared. They
chose to act than to remain idle - So we
should!
(4) Providentially and
miraculously, their lives were
spared. Spared not for a morsel of food,
but for a lifetime of fortune. Spared to
share this good news to the King, Spared
by God, not Syrians - Spared are we!
It is true that we have lost our loved
ones during this pandemic.
It is also true that we, who remain,
have either overcome or yet unaffected by this.
God spared
those lepers, saved them from an imminent death for a GREAT purpose.
I believe God has spared me not to relish the fortune but publish
the good news that JESUS IS GOD!
We are alive, not because we are
healthy. We are alive because of His providence. We are alive because of His purpose.
The lepers tarried not. They said let us
go. How about us?
Tomorrow….
