Helmet …Hell met! (Jesus wept..) (Learnt..a blog post) 11
An
old Albanian Proverb goes like this, "Face is a mask, look behind
it". If it were to be today, one
would rewrite it as follows: "Mask your face, don't be without
it".
Without
a miraculous intervention that ensures total eradication of this virus all over the
earth, I am inclined to believe that
this is going to be order of world, in the days ( may be weeks, months or even
years) to come. Whether we like it or not! Prince or Pauper, whoever you may
be, you must be sufficiently covered, adequately distanced.
The
other day I saw a photograph of few personnel belonging to sub-registrar
office. They were in modern-day uniform-
fully covered head to toe wearing Personal Protective Equipment. I was quite appalled! These government personnel, who come into
contact with general public on a daily basis are truly vulnerable to catch infection. I thought this was just the foretaste of
things to come.
A
student who had just graduated to college was hell bent on owning a new
motor-cycle. His parents, though
affluent, were reluctant to buy him one.
However, the loving parents, fell prey to his persistent appeal and in
due time bought him a new motor-cycle but gifted to him with two conditions. He should not ride without a
helmet and be mindful of speed-limits.
Along with the bike they also gave him a costly helmet which could
protect his head even in a very worst road accident. The boy gleefully agreed
to obey the conditions and thus got his most prized possession in hand!
Few
months passed by. The summer was at its peak. The boy was now finding it difficult to
ride, sporting an helmet. All the
while, he was enjoying his ride and he came across no mishap whatsoever with
his new vehicle. This track record gave him the confidence to take a step,
towards freedom. The helmet which was
meant for his safety had become an inconvenience now. One fine day, he decided to do away with it
ride freely! The whiff of air brushing
past his face and naked head was an electrifying experience. He continued to enjoy, all the more, all the
way.
But,
as fate could have it, one of his jolly rides jolted his life. On a sunny day this boy, while trying
to negotiate a U-turn and avoid an accident, lost his balance and banged on the
road divider exposing his naked head.
The fall was not gruesome yet his head was hit. The boy, who suffered no injuries whatsoever
in his body was struck in his head. Alas,
the boy did not survive due to head injury.
Words cannot express the shock, the grief which overtook the parents
when their son's face. One policeman
told the father of the deceased, "Sir, if only he had his helmet on, he
would have survived?".
Father
was inconsolable.
