Hear him: God's Megaphone(4)
Before
the advent of cable television and onset of private channels, there used to be
only one national television channel called, Doordarshan. Doordarshan in
English means Distant Vision. Today it
is called, DD, in short form. Before
the television era, we had only AIR or All India Radio. All India Radio's on-air time was called Akashvani.
Akashvani means the 'sound which comes from the air' 'from the sky'.
In
the beginning there used to be only few programmes. The most important of them being News. In 80's,
elders used to educate their children to watch, without fail, English
News programme to follow their diction, pronounciation, grammar so as to
capture the language. There used to be
one or at the most of two news-hours during the day, if I remember right. Whatever news, whether it was about our
state, country, sports, cinema, weather, international events etc., we were all
dependent on DD news. Gone are those
olden days….or golden days…if I may say so!
Zoom
to 2020. A web-article says that there
are 375 24-Hour News channels all over
the world. Of them 82 are in India. So many news channels to cover so many
happenings in the world. What is the
game behind it?
The
abbreviation NEWS stands for "Notable events, weather and
sports". According to Oxford dictionary,
"News is newly received or noteworthy information, especially above recent
events usually a broadcast or published report, not previoiusly known to some".
Today
, with so much to see, people are asking which News channel I can rely upon,
which is the only neutral and unbiased channel?
Doordarshan
News and Akashvani have (almost) become a forgotten thing for now….is not it?
Let
me ask you a question…let me probe you little bit….what comes to your mind…or
who comes to your mind when you hear the terms
A
voice from the heaven or sky said….. or Akashvani Said…..any
guess
